Water

At Buckland Park Lake we are blessed with a 50-acre pristine lake, one of the largest bodies of water in Surrey. Open water / wild swimming and SUP clubs have been enjoying our lagoon since 2016, and just recently E-foil has been added to the list of available activities. To join Skip and the team in or on the water please pre-book your session via The SHAC’s website. We cannot allow access to the water for day visitors, who have not pre-booked with The SHAC.

Lagoon side we have built a giant sandpit and children’s playground.

El Rocinante, our lagoon side snack bar is open daily and offers a range of hot and cold snack and drinks.

OPEN WATER SWIMMING

Our lagoon is one of the few year-round open water / wild swimming sites in the area. The open water swimming club is run by The Surrey Hills Adventure Company.

“Enjoy the challenge of an open water swim. Commune with nature whilst achieving those personal goals, shedding those pounds and meeting like-minded people. Cold water can increase energy levels, nerve endings stand up and your heart starts racing – it is the best possible way to get a natural high.” Skip of The SHAC.

We regularly carry out water quality tests.

We cannot allow access or swimming in the lake to day visitors. You must be part of a SHAC pre-booked activity.

STAND-UP PADDLE BOARDING (SUP)

The Surrey Hills Adventure Company run a variety of SUP classes and activities on our lagoon. From 1:1 tuition and small group intro sessions to freeride sessions, corporate away days and celebrations. (Children aged 8-16 should be accompanied by an adult).

They have the kit to use and wetsuits available to hire from their beach shack. Showers, changing rooms and lockers are available in our Outdoor Activity Centre.

E-FOIL

The SHAC are one of the first companies in the UK to be able to offer the latest watersports craze, Efoil. Using their extensive experience and knowledge of water sports, EFoil coaching and experiences are now available.

As hard and as scary as it might look, with the SHACs introduction to efoiling course, it is more achievable than you might think– and huge fun at same time. A perfect gift to yourself or the adventurer in your life to try something new and experience flying above the water.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITY CENTRE

For anyone taking part in water activities we have shower and changing room facilities in our OAC on the meadow. There are also toilets, including disabled access/baby change facilities.

Our meeting room within the OAC is also great for small private events, birthday parties, corporate meetings and away days.

FISHING

At Lawrence Lake we have a club room where fish can be weighed, cleaned and recorded and this also has washing and toilet facilities. The other two lakes have fishing huts, without plumbing, but separate toilet facilities exist at Park Lake, in The Reverie, our new restaurant.

Three boats are available on Park Lake, two at Tapwood and 1 at Lawrence. Prior to the start of the season, we have an Annual Dinner for members in the Outdoor Activity Room at Buckland Park Lake to which all members and their guests are invited.

The subscription covers the 8 month season – and of course the Annual Dinner – and is payable at the start of the season in April. The membership fee is reviewed annually, and can be checked with Melanie Smallbone and Gail Ashton at sporting@dungate.co.uk.

The cost per member in 2023 season is £625 inc VAT.

SANDPIT

As we excavated for The Reverie, we kept finding more sand. No surprises here, But, we’ve put it to good use in creating a 50m2 gated sandpit for children.

Please bring your own buckets and spades.

PLAYGROUND

Our children’s playground, is adjacent to the sandpit and consists of a basket swing, clamber sticks and activity tower. We’ve installed four pergolas around the playground for shade.

EL ROCINANTLE SNACK VAN

Sophia and Luke run El Rocinante, our lagoon-side snack van. The menu is updated regularly and offers a selection of burgers and breakfast baps, nachos, fries, kids meals, sweet treats and ice cream, hot and cold drinks.

Vegan and vegetarian options available.

Opening times are
/ Monday – 10-4pm
/ Tuesdays & Thursdays 8am – 4pm
/ Wednesdays & Fridays 10am – 6pm (for summer evening swimming till 8pm)
/ Saturdays & Sundays 8am – 5.30pm

HEALTH AND SAFETY

We understand the temptation to take a dip in our lagoon, but it’s important we tell you it gets deep very quickly so it is really only suitable for experienced wild swimmers. The only way to currently access our lagoon is through organised activities and clubs run by The SHAC. Please contact them to find out how to get involved in SUP and Open Water Swimming.
